Stony Creek Metropark Turtle Hatchery

At the southwest corner of the East Lake Trail, a sandy point marks the location of a turtle hatchery.  Each year, hundreds of snapping turtle eggs are laid here.  Although many are dug up and eaten by other animals, some survive, with the newly hatched turtles descending the short distance into the lake.
