Waterloo State Recreation Area Golf Course Ruins

Near the park headquarters, the Waterloo Pinckney Trail, and the Hickory Hills Trail, pass through the ruins of an old golf course.  Not much is left, but there are still some very visible, and some less visible, signs of the past.

  • Just uphill from the park office, stairs lead up to an old concrete pad from the old golf course.
  • Further down along the trail, you pass over terraces supported by fieldstone retaining walls.
  • After you cross the road and drop down to the lake, the foundation of the old pump house, used to water the greens, is located just across the trail.

No one will play golf on this course again, but looking for these, and other features, can provide explorers with a rewarding afternoon.
